As initially stated here “Responsibly Ending the War in Iraq” it was stated that “Iraq is not yet secure” as the POTUS spoke to Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC. That was back in Febuary of 2009. Guess what, it still isn’t secure and yet another drawdown against military advisers is under way.
It began with the POTUS decision to remove required gunfighters from Afghanistan here even thought his military advisors discouraged the type and amount of withdrawal.
Now following the first decision against his military advisors, yet another decision is made against his military advisors advice.
Obama Administration to Drop Troop Levels in Iraq to 3,000
“The Obama administration has decided to drop the number of U.S. troops in Iraq at the end of the year down to 3,000, marking a major downgrade in force strength, multiple sources familiar with the inner workings and decisions on U.S. troop movements in Iraq told Fox News.
Senior commanders are said to be livid at the decision, which has already been signed off by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.”
A senior military official said by reducing the number of troops to 3,000, the White House has effectively reduced the mission to training only.
"There is almost no room for security operations in that number; it will be almost purely a training mission," this official said. The official added that a very small number of troops within that 3,000 will be dedicated to counter-terrorism efforts, but that's not nearly what Gen. Lloyd Austin, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, wanted.”
"The biggest winner of a U.S. decision to move to 3,000 troops in Iraq would the Iranian regime. The ayatollahs would rejoice,"
Hmmm now why POTUS have troops withdraw if this was being publicized from the Iraqi Prime Minister - “Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Tuesday there was no need to set a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from his country.” On Tuesday, the head of the three-province Kurdish autonomous region in the north of Iraq, warned that if American troops leave sectarian violence might resurface. Massoud Barzani urged the central Iraqi government to sign an agreement with the U.S. to keep forces in the country.
The decision to withdraw troops from either Afghanistan or Iraq have serious implications on America and even more so for those that have to go and fight those wars. One might ask “How can it be bad if we are bringing troops home?” Well it’s not bad if it is time to bring them home and two, if you’re the one going home. If you are the one told to stay put and do more with less, its not so hot of a deal and you aren’t being set up for success which leads to more casualties.
Like that if Afghanistan and explained here I have to ask if we are ready to move into “Phase 5” and if we are at a place to withdraw this many warriors, then wouldn’t make sense that we are at a level to bring all of them home? If not are we taking away from those that will have to do more with less?
Time for a CGar!
