Tomb of unknown soldier

A warrior from the Old Guard mans the post of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington DC durring Hurrican Irene 2011. Actions speaking louder than words!!

WASHINGTON – "As Hurricane Irene barrels her way toward the mid-Atlantic and up the East Coast, members of The Old Guard continue their vigilance at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

While on duty the Tomb Sentinel crosses a 63-foot rubber surfaced walkway in exactly 21 steps. He then faces the Tomb for 21 seconds, turns again, and pauses an additional 21 seconds before retracing his steps.

The 21 is symbolic of the highest salute according to dignitaries in military and state ceremonies.

Members of The Old Guard have guarded the Tomb every second, of every day regardless of weather or holidays since April 6, 1948."

Time for a CGar for this warrior!

  1. Our uniform warriors do so much to guard our nation. All we can do is be there to say “thank you for your service” and to lend an ear. My oldest son is in the Army, with his family at his side to support him. We need to say “thank you” to all the family members who are there for them. To the “Old Guard” thank you!!

  2. Thank you to our men and women who have graciously given their time and unfortunately their lives for the protection of our lives and liberty. I believe there is a heaven and they will be rewarded there since we fail to recognize their contributions here on earth.

  3. Those of us who have served in peace and war know that sometimes the most dedication is standing a lonely post in absolutely crappy weather because that is our duty. These soldiers do that and do it well. I have heard they have never quit their posts even in the most vile weather. That is discipline and motivation in the extreme. No lives stand threatened, no battle to be won, just doing it because it is the right and honorable thing to do, and that duty is theirs to carry out.
