There is a lot of discussion about the picture, video and DNA data from the recent Bin Laden raid. There is plenty of data obtained from the objective as during any military operation; you exploit the area for intelligence.

Currently the position is to not release any photos or data from the raid.Being the devil’s advocate here I present a couple different views for you to make your own decision. I think we would all like to see not only the photos but all of the “unclassified” info pertaining to the event. Granted the last thing we want or will do is put our fellow warriors in harm’s way. However, there are ways to release the pertinent info without putting in anyone in harm’s way.

I give you below a couple thoughts:

If the photo is released

-It will almost immediately be discredited & questioned

-May be used as a campaign symbol for terrorists groups

-It will be used against the administration and America

-Will it offend Muslims???

If the photo isn’t released

-“It isn’t in our national security interest to allow those images to be icons to rally  opinion against the United States”….we released photos of  Hiroshima and Nagasaki……the JFK film

-If it isn’t released there will always be doubt about killing him. The “event” needs to be validated especially in today’s technology world.

-Not releasing it will be used against America

-Terrorist groups are most likely to retaliate with or without the picture released

Other items to think about….

-The photo could be released & altered to be less “gruesome”. Several hundreds of gruesome photos of American service members have been released from Iraq & Afg alone.

-Pictures of Americans falling from the WTC in NY were released from American photographers. Were those images used to be icons to rally  opinion against the United States??

-Even if the photo is released would it actually be taken as authentic?

-What happens if Al  Qaeda releases a video saying Bin Laden is alive?

-How to you keep the details quiet? Those that were there will get out of the military one day and will be able to tell everything. You think they don’t have their own photos?

-What about historical data, this type of event simply won’t disappear from America’s history.

Take the poll….

Time for a Cgar!!

  1. John is entirely correct. I want to see the pic just so I can gloat. I believe the military.
New bin Lade drink…two shots, splash of water. Just wish I could take credit for that one ;D

  2. Pictures can be photoshopped into anything you want them to be.
Solid proof would be a body….which is said to be fish food.
I find it odd the military has been mum….no press conf. or anything else.

  3. Of course the world needs to see these pictures. Otherwise, just like Hitler, the world with think he escaped or is a secret prisoner at Gitmo. The Romans used to put their enemies head on sticks to remove any doubt that they were dead.

  4. I’m just glad that we didn’t hit the compound that OBL was living in with a cruise missile, smart bomb or other type of ordnance. We wouldn’t have known for sure that he was dead. But for him to have to look that SEAL in the eyes right before the bullet penetrated his cranium… I can only hope that his last thought was “Oh Shit, the Americans got me” Semper Fi.

  5. If One Marines View tells me our guys have the body that’s gold to me. I voted yes just thinking maybe photographs will calm the waters a bit in regard to the doubts from others that will naturally arise. There have been so many different reports regarding who, what, when, where and how from multiple sources confusion reigns. But what else is new.
In total agreement with Mike P. In fact the thought of evil personified having to go eye to eye with a righteous Navy Seal just does my heart good. President Bush promised it, Toby sang it, the Seals delivered it.

  6. Thanks warriors for all the comments. Want to help your warriors, help me spread the word about them and send them a post from OMV. Like that of “Reckless” above, if we don’t teach others of those that have gone before us, they will disappear into history and we cant let that happen to your Marines. Semper Fi
