Arlington

Remember those that have paid the ultimate price to allow all to be free and voice what they like in our great country. You may be warm and with family during this holiday time. There are some that are miserable but with another part of their family and kicking ass this holiday season. Never forget those that have paid the price as their families will remember them for sure, so should we.

Christmas wreaths adorn the grave of Army Staff Sgt. James R. Patton at Arlington National Cemetery, Dec. 21, 2010. AFPS writer Donna Miles recently met Patton's mother, and paid a visit to his grave to lay a wreath at his grave; she shares her experience in a commentary. Patton was serving his seventh overseas deployment since 9/11 with the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, when he died in a helicopter crash in Tikrit, Iraq, on April 18, 2010. 1. Cpl. Eric Washington and Lance Cpl. Davin M. Green are two Marines from Comm Plt, H&S Co.,1st Bn, 8th Marine Regiment buried at Arlington. They were both killed in Beirut, Oct. 23rd 1983. It was my pleasure to know and serve with them. I think of them often. Semper Fi.

  2. Thank you for this post, Major.
There is no such thing as “closure” for the families and for those that served with our fallen heroes. Nor should there be. We go on with our lives but carry with us the courage they taught us in their living and dying.
Remembering the fallen, their families and all of those that served with them today and everyday.

  3. Thank you for this posting… Our fallen will never be forgotten and this time of year is always one of the hardest. Last evening I was with parents of a fallen Marine hero as we met the plane bringing him home for his final tribute.. As we stood on the tarmac in the pouring rain, I couldn’t help but feel heaven was crying for this family who had just lost their son. We will escort him Thursday to his final resting place where he will be given full military honors, and the respect he so richly deserves and yes NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN. Thank you Darkhorse.. you sacrificed your life for our freedoms RIP

  4. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and service members who have given so much throughout America’s history. We honor, remember and pray for these cherished Americans during this holy season. God Bless you and your family.
