General McCrystal is the Commander, International Security
Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A).
He previously served as Director, Joint Staff from August 2008
to June 2009 and as Commander, Joint Special Operations Command
from 2003 to 2008, where he was credited with the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of Al-Qaeda
in Iraq, but also criticized for his alleged role in the cover-up of the Pat
Tillman friendly fire incident.
McChrystal has a reputation for saying and thinking what other military leaders
are afraid to, one of the reasons cited for his current appointment, which he

within the article relating to the President of the United States ( POTUS). It
will be interesting to see how this is handled. I know in (Marineistan- as many
officials are calling Afghanistan because of the great success the USMC is
having in its areas of operations) that although the Marine corps is doing
well, its mission isn’t to hold positions for a long period of time (That’s the
Army’s job-Marine Corps is in fast, kill bad guys, and move onto next hot spot-“Expeditionary”)
but the small units are mastering the counter insurgency operation very, very
well, with very few civilian casualties. The other forces are trying to figure
out how the USMC can do this, but they can’t (again, another story) .
Depending on what will be the “next step” for POTUS, there
are two US Marine Corps General eyed for the job and to replace Gen McCrystal is that is what POTUS does. The two Marine Generals qued up are Gen Mattis and Gen
