Here is some information regarding retailers and future store closings.
This coming holiday season please check with the retailers before you
purchase your holiday gift cards, you need to be sure the cards will be
honored afterwards.

Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the
cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January
1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. This is referred to as

  1. I saw this list, too, but then someone else e-mailed me and said it was one of those “internet things”.
So am wondering what others have heard — yes or no?

  2. I shop at Eddie Bauer (online and catalog) and I got an email from them saying it is regular business to close some stores and that they are also OPENING some stores and their catalog business is doing extremely well. They are honoring gift cards, as is Circuit City-heard that on the news today. I think while some stores ARE going out of business, some are being bought out by larger stores and will honor gift cards of the store they buy out. (that’s just good business-Belk here in Alabama did it when they bought out McRae’s) If anybody’s really concerned about gift cards not being honored, I suggest the Visa gift cards because you can use them just about anywhere! (My mama and daddy get me one for Chrismas every year…love it!)

  3. Lane Bryant, Catherines, and all stage stores may not be closing at all. My Dad i helping build alot of new ones. Being the retail business for sometime, the stores you listed may be closing certain stores because business is not good in that particular area. I worked for Avenue a womans plus size store, many of thier stores closed due to not enough customer support. in other words if you don’t shop there and not many people do the company will close the doors because it cost to much to keep the doors open. I heard about the other stores on the news. but i missed the entire cast on it.
